The Asbury Collegian

This year, I have the opportunity to serve on the editorial board of my university's newspaper, The Asbury Collegian. I'm the Art Director, which is a fairly new position to the staff.

During the fall of my junior year, I volunteered as a layout editor, and in the spring, the to-be Executive Editor contacted me and asked me if I would work on his staff. I was pleasantly surprised, and happily accepted the offer.

When I began to think about the newspaper and especially it's design, I knew there were some things I wanted to change. Most importantly, I wanted to redesign the cover. The previous year's cover image was not over the full cover. Pictured to the left is the first issue of the 90th volume of the Collegian.

Issue to issue, I assign photographers and graphic artists to cover stories. Then, as the work comes in, I organize it onto our server space. When production rolls around, I also oversee the layout editors, and get to work on putting together the cover, as well as designing the center spread.

I'm excited to be able to continue work as the Art Director throughout the year, and really work as a team to impact campus through journalism.
